Kiesling and Frie Honored

Jessica Kiesling and Meredith Frie were recently recognized for excellence in their work in the Department of Animal Science.

Jessica Kiesling was honored on Tuesday with the MSU Outstanding Faculty Award by the MSU Senior Class Councils. The Councils are departments of MSU’s undergraduate student government, Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU). These Class Councils have been established in order to directly represent each class on campus and to better address their unique concerns. The Council acts as the voice of their class at Michigan State University. Each semester, the Senior Class Council accepts nominations from graduating seniors for The Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award. The award is presented to faculty or staff members who have exemplified achievement both personally and professionally through determination, enthusiasm and love for Michigan State University. The president of the Senior Class Council read the following from the nomination letter: “Jessica Kiesling works so hard and is a fantastic advisor. Even in the face of outstanding loss, she has taken on huge responsibilities since Dr. Balander retired. She is fair and understanding and we all love her”.

Meredith Frie, a graduate student of Dr. Paul Coussens (through cell and molecular biology), won first place for an oral presentation in the American Association for Immunology graduate competition at the annual Conference for Research Workers in Animal Diseases meeting on Monday in Chicago. Her presentation was on recently completed work with Bovine Leukemia Virus and vaccine boosters. This work was also accepted for publication in Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology.
